OGDEN, Utah; June 18, 2024 – ABS Kids, a leading provider of services to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), opened its latest facility and first-ever applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy center in Ogden. ABS Kids now has centers across 13 cities in Utah to provide needed, high-quality ABA therapy, autism diagnosis services, social skills and school preparedness to children and families across the state.
To celebrate the area’s autism community and the opening of this new state-of-the-art center, ABS Kids is hosting Sensory Friendly Summer Fest on June 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. MDT in Riverdale, Utah, just south of Ogden. This free event is open to the public and offers fun for the whole family, including face painting, arts and crafts and more.
ABS Kids regularly organizes important group experiences — sensory-friendly and structured playtime events such as this — for children with ASD and their families to advocate for the greater autism community. Through June and July, ABS Kids will also host a Summer Event Series across Utah, helping children with ASD further develop social and life skills.
“We understand the need for autism services in the Ogden area and the entire state of Utah,” said ABS Kids Executive Vice President Mellanie Page, M.Ed., BCBA. “That is why ABS Kids has made this area a priority, where the need for access to ASD care within driving distance is high.
“This center was designed to provide the Ogden community with much-needed diagnosis and personalized therapy services in a safe and structured environment. We offer unique and critical development opportunities for children with ASD at the center, at home and as children head back to school.”
According to the CDC 2023 Community Report on Autism, Utah’s estimated prevalence of ASD among eight-year-old children increased slightly from 2.2% in 2018 to 2.5% in 2020. Also, four-year-old children were more likely than eight-year-old children in 2020 to have been identified with ASD by 48 months.
